Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture painful?

Most patients are pleasantly surprised at how gentle acupuncture is. The needles are very fine — much thinner than those used for injections — and most people feel little to no discomfort. Some even describe the treatment as relaxing.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your condition and overall health. Some people notice improvement after just 1–2 sessions, while chronic or long-standing issues may require a course of treatments. After your consultation, Dr. Tan will give you a personalised treatment plan.

Are Chinese herbs safe?

Yes — when prescribed by a qualified practitioner. Dr. Tan only uses high-quality, approved products and tailors prescriptions to each patient’s needs. If you are on prescription medications, herbs are selected carefully to avoid interactions.

Can I combine TCM with Western medicine?

Yes. Traditional Chinese medicine often works well alongside Western treatments. Dr. Tan is trained in both systems and takes care to ensure that therapies are safe and complementary. Always let us know about any medications you are taking.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first consultation includes a detailed health assessment, including discussion of your medical history, lifestyle, and symptoms. Dr. Tan may also use traditional diagnostic methods such as pulse and tongue reading. From there, she will recommend a treatment plan tailored just for you.

How should I prepare for treatment?

  • Eat a light meal beforehand (not on an empty stomach).

  • Wear comfortable clothing.

  • Bring along a list of your medications or supplements.

  • Allow time to relax after your session if possible.
